This session reviews psychoeducation and skills-training elements related to alcohol-related consequences, in particular, the effect of alcohol on sleep and the nature and potential dangers of drug interactions. The importance of considering an individual student’s evaluations of consequences is discussed as a foundation for navigating the various components of feedback that could be the focus of discussion during a BASICS session. The biphasic effect of alcohol and the “point of diminishing returns” are also discussed, as is how functional (vs. metabolic) tolerance is learned and unlearned.
