Recruiting

New Establishment Letter

Use the New Establishment Letter (Word) to recruit new chapters. The History of the Project (Word), Establishment Information Sheet (PDF) and Establishment Order Form (Word) should also be included in this letter.

Script for Recruiting via Telephone

If making telephone calls to get establishments on board, this is a good script to use (Word).
Recommendation: follow up each successful phone call with a “Thank you to New Establishments” (Word).

Establishment Information Sheet

It is important to get establishments to fill out this form PDF)and return it back to you so you have their specific contact information, and it is in writing that they are committed to being a participant in the program.

Introducing a New Coordinator

Introduction of Coordinator

Notify your local establishments when personnel changes by using this form (Word). This also can serve as an excuse to continue communication with those establishments. It might be a good idea to send a CHEERS brochure and an Establishment Order Form (Word) again as well. Remember, managers and owners will often have quick turnover. They appreciate reminders of what the CHEERS program is about.

Other Resources

History of the Project

This is great for press releases and for sending to new establishments as it is an in depth look at the program. (Word)

Establishment Information Sheet

Use this form (PDF) to sign on and gather contact information for new establishments. It can also be used with current CHEERS establishments annually as a way to update your contact information.

Establishment Order Form

Send this online form out every opportunity possible to generate additional CHEERS orders. It can serve as a reminder to businesses to continue promoting the program. Establishments will use them if they get them regularly and know how.

Chapter Order Form

This is a another online form for chapters to fill out. One suggestion I might make in recruiting establishments to participate… “how about sending them samples of our free products?” Use this form to order free products from us so you can give them away, not only to the students but to the Establishments as well!

How to Have a CHEERS Table

CHEERS table tips

Having a CHEERS table at a resource fair or event is a wonderful way to promote and gain visibility for the CHEERS program. This document (Word) gives you suggestions on CHEERS tabling at your next student event.

Project CHEERS was designed to increase the number of designated drivers throughout the state of Missouri. Bars, restaurants and nightclubs participating in CHEERS provide FREE non-alcoholic beverages to the acknowledged designated driver in a group of two or more. It's a way of saying thanks to the drivers for caring about the safety of your friends and community!

In order to ensure that this program is successful in your community, we ask that you:

  1. Inform your students about CHEERS
    1. Hang CHEERS posters
    2. Hand out promotional items to students
    3. Create an alliance with alcohol responsibility groups or forums on campus
  2. Recruit local establishments to join the CHEERS program
  3. Maintain contact with establishments to ensure the continuation of CHEERS in those businesses

Sponsored by MoDOT’s Division of Highway Safety, CHEERS has over 110 member establishments in Mid-Missouri alone. We also currently have 21 collegiate chapters across the state promoting involvement in CHEERS on the local level.

If you are interested in forming a CHEERS chapter in your community, please call our state coordinator at (573) 882-9335, or fax the chapter information form to (573) 882-1751.
